Road

Road cycling is arguably the most prestigious of all the cycling disciplines. Road racing is almost as old as the bicycle itself with a history dating back to the 19th century. The first officially recorded race dates back to the 31st of May 1868 and was held at the ‘Parc de Saint-Cloud’ in Paris. The race was only 1.2km and was won by an English rider James Moore.

The International Cycling Union has been organising World Road Championships since its inception allowing the greatest cyclists on the planet to compete for the title of World Champion and wear the coveted ‘Rainbow Jersey’ for the following cycling season.

Each and every year the UCI Road World Championships provide exciting moments and gripping stories of individual effort and accomplishment. Unlike other cycling races the World Championships allow all types of riders a chance to win the ‘Rainbow Jersey’ as each year the course is different and varies from flat roads to steep mountains. Past winners of the Road World Champions include cycling greats such as Lance Armstrong, Eddie Merckx, Greg Lemond, Mario Cipollini as well as the current World Champion Mark Cavendish.

Through UCI Travel you now have the opportunity to experience the thrill and excitement of road cycling first hand. UCI Travel has designed a range of unique VIP travel packages which include accommodation, transfers and exclusive access to the best areas on the track.
