BMX cycling originated in California during the early 1970s when kids, inspired by the motorcross superstars of the time, began racing on dirt bikes and imitating motocross riders. The popularity of BMX cycling grew rapidly, offering a more exciting action and energy at a lower cost.
Integrated into the UCI in 1993, BMX cycling is a challenging and fast paced sport that sees riders test their limits both on and off their bikes as they propel themselves across a 350m course full of jumps, bumps, banked turns, sharp curves and various other obstacles.
Eight riders compete against each other in a series of heats in races that are action packed and not for the faint hearted. The UCI BMX World Championships are sure to excite and entertain!
